I respectfully disagree on stocks. As long as you have no debt, I don't think there's anything wrong in investing in stocks with a long term time horizon.
Actually I know a couple of people who invested in stocks a few months ago and have now sold, making a tidy profit, but I don't care for trying to catch a falling knife.
